In a week it's Valentine's Day and to mark the occasion, we want to tell you a story about our "timeless" icon of love, Aphrodite.
Born on the mythical island of Cyprus, Aphrodite symbolizes love, passion, and sensuality. Her magnetic aura captivated minds and left a lasting impression on souls. One of her most famous legends tells of her tumultuous love affair with Adonis. Adonis, dazzlingly beautiful, attracted the attention of the goddess, who fell madly in love with him. She hid him from the gaze of the other gods in a chest, which she entrusted to Persephone, queen of the Underworld. But when the latter discovered the young man, she too was bewitched and refused to give him up. Zeus then had to intervene and ordered that Adonis divide his time between the two goddesses: part of the year with Persephone in the underworld and the other with Aphrodite on earth. Their love was ardent and passionate, but tragic. One day, during a hunting trip, Adonis was mortally wounded by a wild boar sent by a jealous god, perhaps Ares, Aphrodite's former lover. The goddess, rushing to his bedside, could not prevent his dire fate. From his blood was born the anemone, a delicate and ephemeral flower, symbolizing the passion and fragility of love. Thus, the memory of Adonis lived on through nature, as an eternal tribute to their fiery affair.
